What the numbers mean.
What do download and upload speed mean?
Download speed is how fast data reaches you, which matters for streaming and browsing. Upload speed is how fast you send data, which matters for video calls, sharing files and cloud backups. Both are measured in megabits per second (Mbps).
What are ping and jitter?
Ping is the time for a tiny message to reach the server and come back, in milliseconds. Jitter is how much that time varies. Low ping and jitter matter most for gaming and calls.
How much speed do I need?
About 5 Mbps streams HD video and 25 Mbps streams 4K. Video calls need about 3 Mbps in each direction. Households with several people streaming at once benefit from 100 Mbps or more.
Why is my result slower than my plan?
Wi-Fi signal, other devices using the connection, VPNs and busy times of day all reduce speed. For the most accurate result, test on a wired connection with other downloads paused.
How does this test work?
Your browser downloads and uploads data in several parallel streams to the nearest RV45 edge server for about ten seconds each, then reports the steady speed after a short warm-up.
